Day 1 Shanghai - Lhasa
The journey begins with a morning flight to Lhasa. Upon arrival, you will be met by your Tibetan guide and transferred to your hotel.
Accommodation: Lhasa Kyichu Hotel or similar (3 star) |
Days 2 - 4 Lhasa
You have three full days to leisurely explore this fabled city.
Start the visit at the magnificent Potala Palace, the very heart of Tibetan Buddhism and former residence of the Dalai Lama. Hundreds upon hundreds of rooms filled with colors, incense and chanting monks combine to make this the highlight of a visit to Lhasa. Wander the corridors and peek into the past. Go to Jokhang Temple, one of the most important religious buildings in Tibet. The Jokhang is circled by Barkhor Street, where you may bargain good-naturedly for some Tibetan goods. You'll get to know the monks, medicants and pilgrims in the area and enjoy bantering with the merchants of this bit of old Tibet.
Also, visit Tibet's two greatest monasteries, Drepung Monastery, which lies at the foot of Mt. Gampo Utse and Sera Monastery, where you can witness the exciting and loud theoretical and religious discussions of the resident monks.

Day 5 Lhasa - Gyantse

Day 6 Gyantse - Shigatse
Visit Pelkor Chiode, a walled monastery complex and it's centerpiece, the grand Chorten; a true architectural wonder that is nearly 600 years old. Depart Gyantze in the afternoon for Shigatse. Visit the Tashi Lhunpo monastery, a rambling maze of Chapels, shrines and halls linked by mysterious alleyways and steep staircases. Afterward, find interesting goods in the town's old market.
